Dancehall music emerged in the late 70s Jamaica, developing from ska's rhythmic tempo and incorporating synthesized instrumentation. Initially a community party in Kingston venues, it quickly attracted favor amongst the younger generation. The shift toward faster rhythms and deejaying's prominence – through DJs chanted over instrumental – signa
